WASHINGTON, D.C. – As Congress continues to struggle to find common ground in addressing the nation’s debt ceiling crisis, many Americans are left to wonder if they will receive their August Social Security payments.
If lawmakers do not act to raise the limit on government borrowing, the United States is expected to default on payment obligations by Aug. 2.
The Social Security Administration does not yet know will happen to the benefit payments due to 28 million Americans that are due on Aug. 3. An additional 27 million Americans are due to receive payments later in the month.
