Merck Plans More Job Cuts

WHITEHOUSE STATION – Merck & Co., the nation’s second largest drugmaker, plans to cut another 12,000 to 13,000 jobs by the end of 2015.

The news came as part of the pharmaceutical company’s second quarter earnings report. Merck reported $12.2 billion in second quarter sales, up from $11.3 billion for the same period in 2010. Second quarter net income was $2.02 billion.

As of the end of June, Merck had 91,000 employees worldwide.
