STATE — Each summer at the end of August, The New Jersey Division of The Salvation Army holds a special five-day respite session at Camp Tecumseh for veterans and their families.
“The Salvation Army and the Veterans Administration NJ Health Care System has collaborated for the last 17 years to provide a unique opportunity for veterans receiving outpatient treatment from the East Orange and Lyons Veterans facilities,” said Brenda A. Beavers, Human Services Director for the NJ Division.
“Veterans and their family members look forward to spending quality time at our beautiful Pittstown, NJ residential camp. We are truly grateful for the opportunity to provide service and recognition to many of New Jersey’s forgotten heroes.” Beavers continued, “And we hope a number of kind-hearted people will come forward to sponsor a veteran. What a wonderful way to memorialize a family member or friend who has served our country and defended our nation.”
Tecumseh, set on 400 rolling acres in scenic Hunterdon County, is the perfect venue for Vets Camp. Recreational amenities include a large lake for fishing and boating, an Olympic-sized pool, basketball and tennis courts, softball field, miniature golf range and hiking trails.
Sponsorship donations are desperately needed now. Full sponsorship for a veteran is $150 and a family of four is $600, but all donations are greatly appreciated. To sponsor a veteran or for more information on this special camp session from Aug. 29 to Sept. 2, contact Brenda A. Beavers at 1-908-851-8211 or visit www.salvationarmynewjersey.org.
