ELIZABETH — The suspect in the shooting death of a Staten Island woman found near railroad tracks in Elizabeth last week surrendered to police Saturday morning, announced Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.

The suspect, Abdul Shahid Aziz, 45, of Elizabeth turned himself in just after 9 a.m. on July 16.

Following an investigation by the Homicide Task Force, an arrest warrant was issued for Aziz on Wednesday, one day after his girlfriend, Ramona Jackson, was found in the area of the 400 block of Schiller Street in Elizabeth, said Romankow.

Aziz is charged with first degree murder, said Romankow. Aziz was being held in the Union County Jail in lieu of $1 million bail.
