Gang Member Guilty Of Elizabeth Robbery, Assault

ELIZABETH — On Tuesday, a Union County jury convicted a member of the Crips street gang of an assault and robbery that took place in Elizabeth last year, said Union County Assistant Prosecutor Brent A. Bramnick who prosecuted the case.

Anthony Kelly, 21, of Elizabeth was arrested in connection with a January 2010 robbery on Fulton and First Street in Elizabeth where, according to the investigation, Kelly attacked the employee of a local business. The victim was seriously injured in the attack and spent several days in the hospital, said Bramnick.

Following an investigation by the Elizabeth Police Department, Kelly was arrested about a month later, said Bramnick. Kelly was found guilty of second degree robbery and third degree aggravated assault following a three-day trial and two hours of deliberations.

He faces 10 years in prison when he is sentenced on Sept. 22 before Union County Superior Court Judge Miriam Span.
