PERTH AMBOY – Inspired by the life of a World War II veteran, civil rights activist, and committed follower of biblical principles, the second annual Elder Carlton Lane Memorial Golf Tournament will be held from 7:30 a.m.–3 p.m. July 22, at Greenacres Country Club, Lawrenceville.

“Elder Carlton Lane believed in the power of education and was passionate about educating the next generation,” said Rhonda Anderson, the Cathedral International’s Chief Operating Officer, where Lane was a member since 1926 and passed away in 2009. “To honor his legacy, passion for golf and interest in promoting higher education, the Cathedral established this scholarship as a tribute to his memory and to raise funds for deserving students going to college.”

Known as a wise, humble and selfless man, Lane was well-respected in his community of Perth Amboy and beyond. He was a lifetime member of the NAACP, worked at the U.S. Postal Service for 38 years, retired and returned to work for 12 more years in the Civil Division of Middlesex County Superior Court.

“The average annual cost of a private four-year college is approximately $26,293, according to College Board’s Trends in College Pricing, 2010 report,” Anderson said. “We hope people will come out to enjoy a game of golf and invest in the future for students desiring to pursue an undergraduate or graduate degree.”

The tournament will kick off with a continental breakfast at 7:30 a.m. and the 8:30 a.m. shotgun tee time, followed by lunch at 1 p.m. for everyone. Tournament fees include: lunch only for $45; golfer fees $150, which includes green fees, cart, breakfast, lunch, awards and registration give-a-ways. The following Sponsorships are available: Lane Circle – Platinum, $1,500; Lane Circle Gold – $1,000; Hole Sponsor – $175; and Patron – $25.

All proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Cathedral International’s College Scholarship Fund.
