PLAINFIELD – A confirmed Bloods gang member has been charged with the murder of a Plainfield grocery store owner, Union County Prosecutor Theodore Romankow announced Monday.
The Union County Homicide Task Force has charged Shalik Coleman, 18, of Plainfield with the shooting death of Eduardo Leaty. The homicide occurred on Saturday, July 2, at the Leaty Grocery Store on East 6th Street at approximately 4:10 p.m.
Coleman has been charged with felony murder, murder, armed robbery and weapons offenses, said Romankow.
He was also charged with the attempted murder of an employee, who was with Leaty inside the store when the robbery took place, said the prosecutor. That employee is recovering from his injuries.
Coleman’s bail has been set at $1 million by Union County Superior Court Judge Stuart Peim. Coleman was being held at the Union County Jail.
