Perth Amboy BID Launches New Anti-Littering Campaign

PERTH AMBOY — Designed to promote the benefits of having a cleaner community, the Perth Amboy Business Improvement District (BID) has launched a community outreach and social marketing campaign that includes the “hiring” of a new city employee: the Litter Critter.

While the campaign will incorporate a number of components that address different audiences, the Litter Critter concept was specifically created to connect with local youth and their parents. Recently, Perth Amboy students in grades pre-K through four voted on the mascot design for the city’s Litter Critter and were asked to think of ideas for keeping the city clean and beautiful.

Selecting a name for the Litter Critter is an additional component of the plan and will be part of a citywide competition after the Litter Critter’s costume is created. The Litter Critter will also be featured on posters and advertisements.

“We hope this effort will build awareness of the littering issue and get the message across that a clean city is a healthy one,” said Perth Amboy Mayor Wilda Diaz. “We expect that the Litter Critter mascot will become a friendly fixture in the downtown district and at local business, recreational and school events.”
