NORTH PLAINFIELD – A Plainfield woman was arrested by Somerset County authorities this week following an undercover drug investigation, Prosecutor Geoffrey D. Soriano announced Wednesday.
Kimberly Brightwell, 47, was charged with distribution of a controlled dangerous substance (heroin) and distribution of heroin within 1,000 feet of a school, officials said. She was taken to Somerset County Jail and her bail was set at $5,000.
The arrest was the result of a two-month narcotics investigation conducted by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Organized Crime and Narcotics Task Force along with the North Plainfield Police Department, Soriano said.
On Tuesday, June 21, an undercover detective met Brightwell in the area of the CVS parking lot located on U.S. Highway Route 22 east, in North Plainfield to purchase 20 bags of heroin, authorities said. After the transaction, Task Force detectives arrested Brightwell. The 20 bags of heroin seized during the investigation have an estimated street value of $290, according to authorities.
