LINDEN — The K-Kids group of School #10 in Linden recently adopted a soldier currently serving in Iraq and sent boxes of items to him and his unit. This soldier was special to School #10 because he not only was a Linden graduate, but had also worked for the school system and is now the father of a current student.

To celebrate Flag Day, and because he is home on a short leave, Capt. Grant Gutkowski did a “meet and greet” breakfast with the Kiwanis Club-affiliated group at School #10. They not only learned about his responsibilities in the service, but also received a lesson about the flag as well as its history. Over breakfast the K-Kids sat with Gutkowski and gave their thanks for all that he and all the armed forces do for America. Gutkowski presented the group with a piece of cultural artwork, handcrafted in Baghdad, depicting 12 landmarks throughout Iraq’s history. He thanked them on behalf of his unit, the U.S. Army and the USA.
