MIDDLESEX COUNTY — The Hub Kings, an instrumental mondo-lounge trio, have announced two upcoming summer performance dates.

Catch the Hub Kings at the following family-friendly area venues.

  • Saturday, June 25-La Tavola Cucina Italian Restaurant, 700 Old Bridge Turnpike, South River. Three sets at 8, 9 & 10 p.m. Reservations suggested: 1-732-238-2111
  • Saturday, July 2-Gazebo Concert Series, Downtown Freehold, Rt. 537 Freehold from 6:30-9:30 p.m.

At the upcoming performances listeners can get a taste of the band’s soul- jazz repertoire as well as a dose of summery, seasonal selections ranging from reggae to calypso.

The Hub Kings create a vibe, centered on the lush tones of the Hammond organ, and swing from the classic style of Booker T & the MGs to more contemporary artists like Medeski, Martin & Wood. The show consists of original material and standards. Their treatment of covers has been described as, “spinning … with an improvisational flow that respects the original, while mapping out new territory.”

The Hub Kings formed in 2007 and since then have performed on WRSU 88.7 FM, won a slot on Universal Audio’s online magazine for their “Last Train Out” and completed their first CD entitled “This Way”. It is available through the band’s website, iTunes, and includes compositions ranging from funk to lounge jazz.
