Hillside Deaths Ruled Murder-Suicide

ELIZABETH – Officials released the results of the autopsies in Saturday’s murder/suicide case in Hillside.

Richard Lewis, 45, died of electrocution followed by drowning, according to Union County Prosecutor Theodore Romankow. Trecia Lewis, 35, died of asphyxiation and multiple sharp force wounds (stabbing.)


Investigators believe Mr. Lewis killed his wife before taking his own life. There are no charges pending and the investigation has been closed, Romankow said.

Hillside police officers responded to a house on the 200 block of Hillside Ave at 10:13 am on June 11 on a report of two people found deceased inside the home. Mrs. Lewis was located in a bedroom. Mr. Lewis was located in a bathroom inside a tub. Two children found inside the home were not injured.
