RAHWAY — Natalia Pavon, a fifth grader at Franklin School in Rahway, was one of six students nominated to attend the Junior National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C.

Pavon will be leaving in early August for a week of activities such as leadership focus groups and field trips. The conference will provide her with the experience of discovering how to improve on the leadership skills she already possesses and learn how to apply those skills immediately upon returning home.

Past distinguished leadership speakers include former Secretary of State Gen. Colin Powell, former U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno and Jesse Jackson, president of the National Rainbow Coalition.

Of her upcoming trip, Pavon says, “I am really excited and yet nervous at the same time. I’m excited about attending the sessions and especially the field trips. I think I’m going to learn how to use my leadership skills better.”
