RAHWAY – Police detectives arrested the owner and two employees of a West Grand Avenue convenience store after seizing 1,500 containers of synthetic marijuana and $9,000 in cash yesterday, according to Rahway Police Detective Capt. Joseph Simonetti.
Business owner Mazhar Farid, 37, and Usman Farid, 29, both of Carteret, and Faisal Shafi, 20, of Rahway, were charged with possession of synthetic cannabinoids and a variety of related counts. They were released on their own recognizance pending a court date, police said. The arrests and the seizure of $15,000 worth of drugs were the result of an investigation by the New Jersey Division of Taxation and the Rahway Police Department.
Rahway Police will continue efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for distributing or possessing synthetic marijuana, just like any other drug, Simonetti said. Anyone may call the police department at 1-732-388-1553 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to relay tips.
