CLARK – After 37 years of service as a member of the Clark Police Department, Chief Denis Connell is retiring, effective June 1, Clark Mayor Salvatore Bonaccorso announced this afternoon.

Lieutenant Alan Scherb has been promoted to the rank of provisional captain and will be designated as the officer-in-charge of the department, effective June 1, 2011. Members of the department were briefed at a general staff meeting this afternoon. Union County Prosecutor Theodore Romankow is providing assistance during the transition.

Bonaccorso said, “I am grateful that Prosecutor Romankow is assigning Captain Ana Zsak of his office to provide Captain Scherb with assistance as needed. She will be a direct liaison to his office. This is a perfect example of shared services as we develop the future leaders of the Clark Police Department.”
