Rahway Republicans Call For Review Of School Board Appointment

RAHWAY – Rahway Republican Chairman Patrick Cassio is calling for a review of Peter Kowal’s recent appointment to the Board of Education.

Kowal, who was defeated in his bid for re-election in April, was appointed to school board to fill the vacancy created by the death of Theresa Mikajlo in March.

Five other candidates – Ronald Dolce, Randall Peterson, Bill Tomkiewicz, Gina D’Addario and Kathleen McGuire – also sought the one-year position.

Cassio believes that Kowal’s letter of intent was deficient, because it was addressed to the superintendent of schools rather than the board secretary, as instructions stated. Kowal’s letter was also missing important details, according to the local GOP chair.

“It is my opinion the Rahway School Board did not follow its own guidelines in this process and accepted a flawed letter of intent,” Cassio said.

The Rahway Republican Committee wants this whole process reviewed by an outside party in the Union County School system.
