South Amboy To Celebrate Memorial Day On Saturday

SOUTH AMBOY – The city will hold its annual Memorial Day parade and celebration this Saturday, May 21. Organizers hope that the early date will encourage more participation.

The parade will begin at 1 p.m. After lining up at the Knights of Columbus on 4th Street, the parade will proceed down Stevens Avenue to John Street and up Broadway, finishing at City Hall.


There will be a Patriotic Pooch Contest immediately following the parade at Station Square on Broadway. Dogs will be judged on looks and personality. The winner will receive $100 and a photo collage from Scans n More. Two runners up will receive prizes of $50 and $25. To register, visit

There will be a pizza-eating contest before the parade at 12:30 p.m., featuring the famous Sciortino’s pizza There is a $5 entry fee and the contest is open to the first 20 participants. The winner will receive a $100 cash prize.

Broadway businesses will feature windows painted with patriotic themes by South Amboy students and residents.
