ELIZABETH-Memories from Fr. Tom McLaughlin: “I have some Elizabeth memories told to me by my mother. At the end of Monroe Avenue, her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Kister, owned a farm at the turn of the century (1900). She recalls their well, their horse and buggy as well as fields of yellow daffodils.
“There were always hunters going to the meadows to hunt pheasants. Pastor Fisher from the Lutheran Church in Elizabeth often went to visit for supper.
“Today that area includes Rosemont Cemetery as well as modern hotels used by people leaving Newark Liberty Airport, which is across the street. The area certainly was built up in 100 years.”
