South Amboy Theatre Announces Auditions For “Camp Rock”

SOUTH AMBOY — Mecca Entertainment and The Studio™, in collaboration with the South Amboy Department of Recreation, will hold auditions for the central New Jersey premier of “Disney’s Camp Rock – The Musical” at the South Amboy Middle-High School Theatre. Performances will take place July 22-24.

Auditions are by appointment only and are open to all students in grades 5-12. All roles are open and the staff is seeking diverse, triple-threat performers from across the region. Auditions will be held at the South Amboy YMCA, 200 John T. O’Leary Boulevard, as follows:

  • Thursday, June 2 and Friday, June 3 from 6-9 p.m.: Singers & Actors Only. Performers are asked to prepare 16 bars of two contrasting songs in the style of the show. Singers must bring sheet music. An accompanist will be present. No “a cappella” singing, iPods or karaoke tracks will be allowed. Actors can choose to prepare a one-minute monologue (optional).
  • Saturday, June 4 from noon-3 p.m.: Dancers Only. An open call for performers who consider dance and movement as their primary strength – especially those with experience in hip-hop, modern, and jazz. A dance combination will be taught, reviewed and tested.

Students and parents can call the Studio offices at 1-732-910-7006 for more information and register for an audition appointment by visiting the “Auditions” page at – students and parents are also encouraged to follow the group on Facebook & Twitter for the most detailed and up to date information.

Students must be available for the entirety of tech week before the show and for all performances. The rehearsal process will be intense (ranging from 4-6 rehearsals per week, depending on role) and there will be a strict attendance policy – performers are asked to weigh all possible conflicts before auditioning. There is no fee to audition, however students who accept a role(s) offered will be required to submit company and costume dues. (More information will be available at auditions.)

Tickets for performances will be $15 for adults and $12 for students and senior citizens. Tickets will be on sale to the public starting on June 13 and can be reserved by calling the Studio.
