Rahway Announces Mayor’s Summer Concert Series Performers

RAHWAY – This year’s Mayor’s Summer Concert Series will include six shows, beginning on Thursday, June 23. All performances begin at 7 p.m. on the concert stage located behind the Union County Performing Arts Center on Irving Street.

Total Soul will begin the concert series on June 23. The band plays music ranging from Motown, to today’s pop and R&B and the jazz and big band standards of the 1940s. Parrot Beach, a dedicated Jimmy Buffett tribute band, will play on July 7.

Nicole Atkins and the Black Sea will make a special appearance on July 21. Rolling Stone magazine named her one of Ten Artists To Watch following the release of her 2007 debut album “Neptune City.” With the recent release of her new album, “Mondo Amore,” she has been featured on the Conan O’Brien Show.

Swingadelic, the New York City metropolitan area’s popular “little big band” that plays everything from the music of Duke Ellington and Frank Sinatra’s era to Motown and dance hits from the 50s to the 80s, will continue the concert series on Aug. 4.

Buskin & Batteau will perform on Aug. 18. The folk singers recently released a new album, “Red Shoes and Golden Hearts.” The summer concert series concludes on Sept. 1 with a performance by World Within, a band that plays music “on the spot” so that each show is a unique experience.
