ELIZABETH — Cargonews Asia has presented the Port of New York and New Jersey with the prestigious best seaport in North America award – the first time that a seaport on the U.S. East Coast has won the award.
The award was presented to Port Authority representatives at the 2011 Asian Freight and Supply Chain Awards in Singapore. Cargonews Asia is one of the premier publications covering worldwide maritime issues, in particular those involving Asian trade.
Port Commerce Director Richard M. Larrabee said, “It is an honor for the Port of New York and New Jersey to receive this prestigious award. The hard work and financial commitment that make this award possible has truly been a team effort involving our entire port community. This recognition by the Asian shipping community is a sign that the investments we have made with our port partners to develop the Port of New York and New Jersey’s infrastructure and services is paying dividends.”
The Asian Freight and Supply Chain Awards are a highly regarded distinction given by thousands of importers, exporters, logistics and supply chain professionals who use freight transportation services.
The program, in its 24th year, is known informally as the “Shipper’s Choice” awards and is based on a readers poll. The awards also recognize the best shipping lines, container terminals, air cargo terminals, airports and rail haulers.
