JAMAICA, N.Y.– On May 6, a team of Customs and Border Protections Officers at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York seized two pounds of coca leaf products that contained trace amounts of cocaine.
Customs officers within JFK selected a shipment manifested as ‘Green Tea Samples’ for an enforcement examination. The shipment that arrived from Peru actually contained coca leaf products in the form of tea bags, and energy bars; which were sampled and sent to Customs labs for testing. Lab tests concluded that the shipment contained trace amounts of cocaine. The shipment was seized and destroyed.
“CBP employs some of the most dedicated professional law enforcement officers in the country,” said Robert E. Perez, director of the Office of Field Operations at the New York Field Office. “These highly skilled officers are equipped with the best resources to identify the most cunning of concealment methods.”
