Celebrate Cinco De Mayo In Perth Amboy

PERTH AMBOY–In celebration of Cinco de Mayo, the Perth Amboy Business Improvement District (BID) is sponsoring a two-part, fun-filled day of activities on Thursday, May 5.

Using the theme of “Mariachi Day by the Bay,” a number of area restaurants will offer special menu pricing and there will be a free program featuring food, music and dancing at Fink Park.

“This is a fantastic way for anyone to take part in a festive event and sample fine food from local Perth Amboy restaurants,” said Roxana Troche, Urban Enterprise Zone/BID Coordinator. “People can literally loop around the town and try a little bit of everything while being serenaded and learning a new dance step.”

The five Mexican restaurants participating in the event will offer special menu prices. For additional information about the menus and pricing, call the individual restaurants. They are:

  • El Taco Loco – 308 State St. 1-732-376-0300
  • Esmeralda Mexican – 347 Smith St. 1-732-826-0222
  • La Casa del Mariachi – 318 Smith St. 1-732-442-2240
  • La Copa de Oro – 306 Smith St. 1-732-442-5059

The festivities at Fink Park, located at Smith Street and Madison Avenue, will run from noon to 4 p.m. and are co-sponsored by Taqueria El Rincon and La Casa del Mariachi. There will be finger-size Mexican food for sale, live entertainment with a mariachi band and dance demonstrations and lessons. A DJ will kick things off at noon, followed by the live mariachi band at 1 p.m. and dance demonstrations starting at 2 p.m. The event will conclude with music from 3 to 4 p.m.

Senior citizen groups from the Alexander Jankowski Community Center, the Puerto Rican Association for Human Development and GraceLand will attend the day’s events. Seniors will be treated to a Mexican dessert, courtesy of the BID.
