The New Philharmonic Of New Jersey Concludes 34th Season

MORRISTOWN – The New Philharmonic of New Jersey concludes a successful 34th season with the full orchestra joined by Hungarian born soprano Isabella Megyeri on Sunday, May 22, at the College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station. The concert will feature a celebration of the 200th anniversary of the great Hungarian composer, Franz Liszt.

Singer Isabella Molnar Megyeri is a rising star in the Opera world having recently performed the lead in Tosca in New Orleans to rave reviews. She has also performed the heralded role in Switzerland and in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Her list of roles includes Arabella from the Puccini opera, Leonore from Beethoven’s Fidelio and Sieglinde from Die Walküre. She will appear in her debut at the Opera Bastille in Paris the 2011-2012 season in the lead role in Richard Strauss’s Arabella.

Megyeri will sing opera arias by Mozart, Verdi Puccini, Tchaikovsky and Dvorak. The orchestra will also perform three of the most beloved symphonic poems: Les Preludes by Liszt, Finlandia by Sibelius and The Moldau by Smetana.

Since its formation in the late 1970s, the New Philharmonic of New Jersey has built a reputation for excellence through concerts, a longstanding music education program and outreach programs for nursing and assisted living facilities. Under the leadership of Music Director/Conductor Leon Hyman, the New Philharmonic is popular as much for the Maestro’s conversations with the audience before each concert selection as it is for the high quality of its entertaining performances.

“We are fortunate to be able to present such a wonderfully talented singer with our orchestra,” said Music Director and Conductor Leon Hyman. “We have a absolutely beautiful program and it should be a magnificent conclusion to a very successful season.”

The New Philharmonic is sponsored in part by RBC Wealth Management, PNC Wealth Management and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. Additional funding for this final concert has been provided by the Masterwork Music and Art Foundation of Whippany.

The concert begins at 3 p.m. and is preceded by a lecture by musicologist and educator John Sichel at 2 p.m. PM.
