EDISON — The 2011 Edison Earth Day Celebration will be co-presented by the Edison Township Environmental Commission and the Edison Sustainable Jersey Green Team on Saturday, April 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will be staged at Oak Tree Pond Park, located at the corner of Oak Tree Road and New Dover Road.
An opening address will be made by Mayor Antonia Ricigliano, followed by the presentation of a Proclamation from NJ Senator Barbara Buono (D-Middlesex) in recognition of the event. A number of presenters, exhibitors and speakers are also planned. Additionally, volunteers will participate in the planting of trees and flowers, as well as the placement of mulch, earlier that morning.
The trees, flowers and mulch will be provided by the Edison Dept. of Public Works (EDPW), in recognition of Earth Day (April 22), as well as of Arbor Day (April 29). A tree will be dedicated to fallen, EDF volunteer firefighter, Michael Galella, as a living memorial to his service to the community. EDPW will also assist with event logistics. Additionally, volunteers will participate in cleaning and preparing the site, before and after the event.
