LINDEN – An East Orange man has been charged in a Linden home burglary that took place last month, authorities said.
Robert L. Griffin, 44, has been charged with burglary, criminal mischief, possession of a stolen credit card, and unlawful use of a credit card, according to police.
On March 24, a 47-year-old homeowner reported that someone had broken into her residence on the 1600 block of Dill Avenue between 12:45 and 5:10 p.m. The rear door had been forced open and several credit cards were taken, police said.
Griffin allegedly used one of the stolen cards at the Linden Shop-Rite. He was identified on video surveillance footage by Detective Frank Leporino, police said.
Authorities served Griffin with the Linden charges on April 28 at Northern State Prison in Newark, where he is being held on unrelated charges. Griffin’s new bail was set at $70,000.
Detectives are working to determine if Griffin can be linked to a series of daytime residential burglaries in the northeast section of Linden that took place over the first three months of the year. No new burglaries have been reported in the neighborhood since Griffin was arrested by Elizabeth Police in late March, authorities said.
