Remembering The Past: Old Menlo Park Mall And More

by Diane Norek Harrison

EDISON-I received the following in an e-mail: “Hi Diane, I came upon your article while searching for info on Bamberger’s at the Menlo Park Mall. I remember that there was a small bar/liquor store located on the left side of the main entrance of the Bamberger’s store-during the early 1970’s. I even remember the appearance of the man who ran it most of the time, I think his name was George. I have not been able to find anything to back up my memory. Do you recall it?”

I have not found the answer to this in my “old” Menlo Park Mall columns. If any one remembers please send! I am still looking for the name of the pet store and the small craft store that sold yarn and knitting material that was located on the side corridor of Bamberger’s at this time.

There was also Roma’s Restaurant, Pantry Pride Supermarket and Red Rooster; men’s clothing store in the old mall.

From Thomas Saboy: “The Steward’s that was on Oak Tree Road was owned by a classmate of mine from Woodbridge High School, Byron Dunham. He also owned the ones in Woodbridge, Plainfield and Rahway.”
