Holy Week And Easter Services Offered At Calvary Lutheran Church

CRANFORD — The solemn season of Lent draws to a close and the joyous celebration of Easter begins in worship services at Calvary Lutheran Church, 108 Eastman Street, Cranford next week. The public is invited to all services.

Palm Sunday Services of Holy Communion on April 17 at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. will mark the beginning of Holy Week. Commemorating Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, these worship services also will offer meditation on Matthew’s account of Jesus’ passion and death. Seasonal music presented by Calvary’s adult, youth and children’s choirs will be accompanied by organ, piano and trumpet.


Maundy Thursday services will be offered at 1:15 and 7:30 p.m. on April 21. These worship services will feature absolution and Holy Communion. The evening service also will include the stripping of the altar in preparation for Good Friday. Seasonal music will be accompanied by organ and at the evening service, violin.

On Good Friday, April 22, the solemnity of the day will be observed at 7:30 p.m. with a Tenebrae Service of shadows and darkness. Music will be provided by the church’s Calvary Choir, with organ, bassoon and violin accompaniment.

The joyous observance of Easter arrives on Sunday, April 24 with Festival Services of Holy Communion at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Each service will offer a full liturgy with instrumental and choral seasonal music and favorite Easter hymns accompanied by organ, piano, trumpet and bassoon. Calvary’s Adult and Hand Bell Choirs will lead music.

Music will be under the leadership of Jeanne Elmuccio, Calvary’s director of music and organist.

Calvary’s occasional 5 p.m. Sunday worship service will not be held on Palm Sunday or Easter, but will resume the following Sunday, May 1.
