EDISON – The township’s popular Family Fishing Derby will be held on Saturday, May 7, from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m., at Lake Papaianni in Papaianni Park, Edison.
Again this year, there will be a special “Children’s Only Derby” for any registered children up to 15 years of age. This “Kid’s Only” event will begin at 8 a.m., one hour before the full derby gets underway at 9 a.m.
Lake Papaianni will be stocked with trout for the event, and prizes will be awarded in both derbies to the male or female who catches the first fish, and to all those who catch one of 100 specially tagged fish. Anyone between the ages of 16 and 70 must have a fishing license and a trout stamp. There is a $10 entry fee; however, the event is free to Edison residents age 65 and over with a township-issued senior I.D. card.
The fishing derby will have a rain date of Sunday, May 8, in case of inclement weather. All derby registrants may continue to fish throughout the season. If a tagged fish is caught after the derby, you may bring the tag to the Recreation Office, 328 Plainfield Avenue, Edison, where you will receive a prize.
Edison PBA, Local #75 will once again help sponsor the event by donating refreshments to anglers as a free service to the community. They also donated 25 tagged fish and prizes for this event.
For information, or A.D.A. concerns, contact the Edison Recreation Department, 328 Plainfield Avenue, Edison weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. or call 1-732-248-7313.
