RAHWAY–Registration is open for the Chinese Brush Painting Workshop taught by Diana Hsu Kung at Arts Guild New Jersey. This intensive one-day class for adults offers the opportunity for individuals to learn about this art form’s rich history and how to master this exciting medium.
The class will be held on Saturday, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1670 Irving Street, Rahway. Registration is required. The workshop fee is $65. Students may bring their own tools and materials or they can purchase supplies directly from the instructor. A complete kit of ink, brushes and rice paper is available for $35.
Registration is accepted through www.agnj.org (click on Art Classes page and scroll to the bottom), by calling 1-732-381-7511, and in person. To register in person, visit the Arts Guild New Jersey office at 1670 Irving Street, Rahway, during office hours. (Use the parking lot entrance.) Office hours are: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. – noon and 1 – 4 p.m.
Kung will introduce students to the traditional Chinese style of painting with brush and ink, where the beauty of nature is both contemplated and celebrated. This ancient art form combines philosophy with a mastery of technical freehand painting skills. Symbolism is also a very important element. The processes of ink preparation, color mixing, loading the brush, brushwork techniques, and motifs and formats will be covered.
