EDISON – Advanced student soloists from the Middle School and Upper School performed classical music with vocals and a variety of instrumental pieces at a recital on Sunday, April 3.
The program included selections representing composers from various eras of music. There were vocals and instrumental pieces on piano, violin, bass clarinet, and trumpet.
The recital featured vocal performances from Ashley Martin ’12, Sam Brukhman ’11 and Milika Griffiths ’13, piano pieces by Brian Machoka ’15, Sonali Shah ’16, Nikki Mugambi ’15, Alex Barbet ’14, Stephanie Smyczek ’13, Ashley DaCosta ’11 and Kimberly Son ’13. Other instrumental performers include Chris Hillenbrand ’15 (violin), Phil Kim ’13 (bass clarinet) and Ian English ’11 (trumpet).
“I’m very proud of all their achievements,” said Jane Brown, instrumental music teacher and co-chair of the Arts Department. “It represents a lot of hard work over a long period of time and they all played very musically with expression to engage their audience.”
Middle School students Sonali Shah ’16 and Nikki Mugambi ’15 and Upper School student Phil Kim ’13 performed in their first W-H recital. Seniors Sam Brukhman ’11, Ashley DaCosta ’11 and Ian English ’11 were outstanding in their final recital performances at Wardlaw-Hartridge.
