EDISON — Middlesex County College will host a Unity Walk to support the relief efforts in Japan on Monday, April 18 at 11 a.m. in front of the College Center.

The one-mile walk around campus will be led by Grand Marshal Yoshinori Machida, star pitcher for the Middlesex County College baseball team and a native of Japan.

The public is invited to participate. A minimum donation of $10 is payable in advance at the Blue Colt Bookstore. Registrations for a minimum of $15 will be accepted on the day of the walk.

All funds will go to Doctors Without Borders, a charity that will be aiding in disaster relief.

“Japan was hit with an earthquake, tsunami and now, nuclear fallout,” said college President Joann La Perla-Morales. “Any one of those would be a calamity, but together this is a disaster of epic proportions that will affect that nation for years to come. I hope the college community will band together to help in their hour of need.”

Flyers are being distributed on campus and are on CampusCruiser and Infonet. To sign up, fill out the form on the back of the flyer and take it to the bookstore with your donation of $10 or more. If you are registering on the day of the walk, come to the front of the College Center; the cost then is $15. The walk is sponsored by the Blue Colt Bookstore. The first 250 walkers will receive an MCC t-shirt.
