Gatzmer Avenue To Be Closed For Railroad Crossing Repairs

TRENTON — The New Jersey Department of Transportation announced Friday that a section of Gatzmer Avenue in Jamesburg will be closed to traffic for one week in order to rehabilitate the Conrail railroad grade crossing.

Gatzmer Avenue is scheduled to be closed north of the intersection with Half Acre Road on Monday, April 4, at 7 a.m. until around 6 p.m. Monday, April 11.  The following detours will be implemented during the closure:

  • Motorists south of the closure will use Forsgate Drive (CR 612) to East Railroad Avenue (CR 522) to Gatzmer Avenue.
  • Motorists north of the closure will East Railroad Avenue to Forsgate Drive to Gatzmer Aevnue.

The detour routes have been coordinated with the Jamesburg Police Department.  Access to businesses and residences along Gatzmer Avenue will be maintained.

In order to provide a safer and smoother railroad crossing on Gatzmer Avenue, NJDOT will replace the existing crossing with a new concrete freight rail crossing and repave the asphalt approaches.  The cost of the work is $500,000.

This project is part of NJDOT’s ongoing railroad grade-crossing safety program, which repairs, upgrades or removes approximately 30 crossings each year.  Real time traffic information is available at
