Newark Bears Get Ready For Baseball Season With Free Events

NEWARK – The Newark Bears professional baseball team will hold several free events on Saturday, March 26, at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium on Broad Street.

At noon, watch the Honey Bears, Newark’s newest and most talented dance team, rehearse for their official debut on Opening Day, May 26.

There will be a silent auction at 2 p.m., featuring unique autographed sports memorabilia from the Yankees, Knicks, Mets, Giants and Jets. Other items up for auction include memorabilia from your favorite musicians and theater/television/celebrity personalities. All profits will be donated to the Wu-Kah-Ki Theatre Workshop of the Newark-Irvington area.

From 2–4 p.m., take an exclusive tour of the ballpark and check out player locker rooms, renovated suites, and other areas off-limits to fans during the season.

The team will also be conducting another round of mascot and national anthem auditions at 1 p.m. For details, visit

The free events are part of part of the Go Newark HoopFest, a community celebration of Newark’s basketball tradition that ties in with the college basketball playoff games being held at the Prudential Center this weekend. Other Newark businesses and institutions, including the Newark Museum and Newark Library, are also planning free activities.
