Mega Millions Jackpot Breaks $300 Million For 2nd Time In 2011

TRENTON – For the second time this year, the Mega Millions jackpot has reached an estimated annuity jackpot of $304 million for tonight’s drawing.

“Don’t wait. Buy your tickets early,” advised New Jersey Executive Director Carole Hedinger, “This $304 million jackpot is the sixth largest that we’ve ever seen for Mega Millions.”

Though no one won the top prize in the Tuesday, March 22, drawing, nine New Jersey retailers sold third prize-winning tickets worth $10,000 each. In addition, 170,666 other New Jersey players took home $782,549 in prizes ranging from $2 to $150, according to Hedinger.

The winning numbers for the Friday, March 4 drawing were: 01, 14, 35, 59, and 53 and the Gold Mega Ball number was 43. The Megaplier number was 04.

Hedinger also commented on the impact this giant jackpot, “With over $41 million in sales in New Jersey alone, we’ve been able to generate an estimated $17.3 million to benefit education and institutions. Likewise, our retailers—everything from small ‘Mom & Pop’ businesses to large corporate chain stores—have shared in over $2 million in commissions since this roll began on Feb. 1.”

Tonight’s drawing will be held at 11 p.m. and televised on NJN.
