RAHWAY — On the morning of March 17, the third grade students of Franklin Elementary School in Rahway were searching for the “Big Dipper” and “Orion’s Belt” in the school gym. Surprisingly, they were able to locate them – with the help of STARLAB and Math and Science coach, Roya Basu. STARLAB is an indoor, portable, inflatable classroom and planetarium. The students enter the STARLAB by crawling through the entry tube and into the dome. Once seated inside, the dome is darkened and a special projector fills the interior with a vivid view of stars and constellations that gently rotate across the STARLAB. Each of the third grade classes received one 30 minute lesson including topics such as Greek sky mythology, Native American sky mythology, and constellation patterns.
