Police Arrest Suspect In Carteret Murder

CARTERET – Last night, police arrested a borough man accused of strangling his live-in companion to death, Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Carteret Police Chief John Pieczyski announced.

Shawn Humphrey, 36, was arrested in Penn Station in New York City at about 8:15 p.m. on March 22, authorities said. He is charged with killing Dana Ciccolella, 32, who was found dead in her John Street home on Monday night.

An autopsy by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office determined Ciccolella had been strangled.

Humphrey also was charged with hindering his own apprehension by preventing the victim’s minor children from entering her bedroom.

Humphrey remained in custody yesterday in New York and is awaiting extradition to New Jersey. Bail has been set in New Brunswick at $2 million by Superior Court Judge Michael A. Toto.

Kaplan and Pieczyski thanked the New York City Police Department, the New York State Police and the New Jersey State Police for their assistance in tracking and arresting Humphrey.
