RAHWAY — On what would have been Dr. Seuss’s 107th birthday, the children of Franklin School in Rahway celebrated Read Across America. The Cat in the Hat made his annual visit to the pre-school and kindergarten students and was greeted with hugs and high-fives.

This year’s theme was based on Sharon Creech’s book “A Fine, Fine School.” Students in kindergarten through fifth grade did a pre-writing activity in which they expressed their feelings on why Franklin School is a fine, fine school. Guest readers, including Rahway Mayor Rick Proctor, Board of Education members Lillie Henderson and Deborah Bridges, former Superintendent Frank Buglione and former staff members Judy Brugger and Gloria Wilmot, visited classrooms to read Creech’s book to the children and then presented their copy to the class.
