Performing Arts Students Put On Show At Crossroads Theatre

NEW BRUNSWICK – The School of Performing Arts of the Middlesex County Vocational and Technical Schools will present “Twelve Princesses,” a special dance theater work choreographed by Cleo Mack, on Friday, March 18 at 7:30 p.m. at the Crossroads Theatre in New Brunswick.

“Twelve Princesses” was inspired by Ann Sexton’s retelling of the Grimm’s Fairy Tale, “The Twelve Dancing Princesses.” It features prose from Sexton’s book, “Transitions,” and music from both contemporary and classical composers.

This performance is the result of collaboration between the MCVTS School of Performing Arts dance program and an artist in residence provided by a grant from the Middlesex County Cultural and Heritage Commission.  The Crossroads Theatre has been made available through the generosity of Johnson & Johnson, Inc., the Middlesex County Cultural and Heritage Commission and the New Brunswick Cultural Center.

“We are pleased to help bring this special performance to the public,” said Middlesex County Freeholder Stephen J. “Pete” Dalina, chair of the county’s Parks and Recreation Committee. “It’s always nice to be able to showcase the incredible talents of our vocational schools’ students and faculty.”

“This performance is an example of what can be achieved when many different groups work together,” said Freeholder Carol Barrett Bellante, chair of the county’s Public Health and Education Committee.

Freeholder Director Christopher D. Rafano said: “I would like to thank Johnson & Johnson, Inc., the Middlesex County Cultural and Heritage Commission, the New Brunswick Cultural Center and the Crossroads Theater for all their support, and the students and faculty for all their hard work.”

MCVTS School of Performing Arts dance program is designed to foster growth in young artists in a professional environment.  The dancers’ studies focus on ballet and modern technique with classes in choreography, improvisation, jazz, hip-hop, dance for camera, anatomy and dance history.

Tickets for the performance are $15 for general admission and $10 for students and seniors.  The Crossroads Theatre is located at 7 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick.  For tickets and other information call 1-732-254-8700.
