CRANFORD – Police arrested a 22-year-old Cranford resident on Monday evening and charged him with a homicide that took place on Sunday, Union County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow announced.
William Parisio is being held at the Union County Jail on $400,000 bail.
Police were called to a residence on Greaves Place in Cranford shortly after noon on March 13, where they discovered the victim, Pamela Schmidt, 22, of Warren, unresponsive in a basement room, said Romankow. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy by the county medical examiner determined that Schmidt suffered traumatic injuries and that her death was ruled a homicide, Romankow said.
On Monday, Romankow assured Cranford residents that they should not feel like they are in danger, saying Schmidt’s death appears to be a tragic isolated incident.
