CRANFORD — The Union County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force and the Cranford Police Department are investigating the death of a woman that occurred on Sunday, according to Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow.
Police were called to a residence on Greaves Place in Cranford shortly after noon on March 13, where they discovered the victim, Pamela Schmidt, 22, of Warren, unresponsive in a basement room, said Romankow. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy by the county medical examiner determined that Schmidt suffered traumatic injuries and that her death was ruled a homicide, Romankow said.
Investigators have determined a person of interest in connection with the homicide, but no charges have been filed as of Monday morning, authorities said.
Romankow assured Cranford residents that they should not feel like they are in danger, saying Schmidt’s death appears to be a tragic isolated incident.
