South Amboy Announces Memorial Day Plans

SOUTH AMBOY – The city’s annual Memorial Day parade and celebration is being planned for Saturday, May 21. Organizers hope that the early date will encourage more participation.

The parade will begin at 1 p.m. After lining up at the Knights of Columbus on 4th Street, the parade will proceed down Stevens Avenue to John Street and up Broadway, finishing at City Hall.

Officials are searching for South Amboy’s oldest living veteran to participate in the festivities. Call Karen at 1-732-525-5961 for more information.

There will be a Patriotic Pooch Contest immediately following the parade at Station Square on Broadway. Dogs will be judged on looks and personality. The winner will receive $100 and a photo collage from Scans n More. Two runners up will receive prizes of $50 and $25. To register, visit www.southamboynj.gov.

There will be a pizza eating contest before the parade at 12:30 p.m. There is a $5 entry fee and the contest is open to the first 20 participants. The winner will receive a $100 cash prize.
