South Amboy Awarded State Funds For Street Improvement

SOUTH AMBOY – The city recently received $250,000 from the New Jersey Department of Transportation 2011 Municipal Aid Program for a road improvement project.

As part of the Pine Avenue and Portia Street Road Improvement Project, officials plan to use these funds to re-align, mill, overlay and install concrete improvements for pedestrians along this major roadway.

“South Pine Avenue is a major roadway traversing the city,” said Mayor Fred A. Henry.  “The roadway is wide and requires significant concrete improvements to realign the roadway by extending the curb and sidewalk bringing the traveling surface to a more uniform and safe width throughout.”

The city project follows work by Middlesex Water and PSE&G to repair and replace aging water and gas lines in this area.
