Carteret Murder Suspect Arrested In Brooklyn

CARTERET — Police in New York City have arrested a suspect who was being sought on charges of killing a Carteret teenager, Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Carteret Police Chief John Pieczyski announced Monday.

Jorge Borrero, 19, was apprehended at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26, after he allegedly jumped a subway turnstile in Brooklyn. New York City police subsequently determined that Borrero was wanted in New Jersey and notified authorities in Middlesex County.

Authorities expect to extradite Borrero to New Jersey to face charges of murder and possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose in connection with the death of Malcolm Harvey, 17.

Middlesex County authorities believe that Borrero shot Harvey on Pershing Avenue, about 50 yards away from the Carteret library, shortly before 6 p.m. on Feb. 16.
