NEW BRUNSWICK—State Theatre’s Family Day will feature performances of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar and other Eric Carle Favorites” on Monday, Feb. 21 at 10:30 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3:30 p.m.
“Family Day at the State Theatre” is part of the State Theatre’s winter festival, Hub City Carnivale, three weeks of performances, activities, and attractions for all ages. Family Day includes a nonstop schedule of both free and paid activities at the State Theatre, George Street Playhouse, Crossroads Theatre, and the United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. including free face painting and balloon animals, plus hands-on workshops.
A discounted ticket price of $13 is available for this performance as part of the State Theatre’s “MakeNoise” promotion. Just mention the promotional code “MakeNoise” when ordering tickets to receive the discount (not all seating sections apply). Regular tickets range from $15-25.
Additionally, there will be free performances in Crossroads Theatre including storyteller Julie Pasqual (10 a.m., 1 p.m.); performances by kid’s rock band StarFish (10:45 a.m., 12:15 p.m., 2:30 p.m.); and performances by the New Jersey Tap Dance Ensemble (11:30 a.m., 1:45 p.m., 3:15 p.m.)
A variety of hands-on workshops take place throughout the day, including “Hand-in-Hand” (10:15 a.m.), “Intro to Ballet” (12 p.m.), “Dancing with Eric Carle” (1:30 p.m.), and “Hip-Hop Dance” (3 p.m.), led by American Repertory Ballet; “Making Character Masks” (10 a.m., 11:30 a.m.); “The Very Hungry Caterpillar: From Page to Stage” (1 p.m.) and “Intro to Improv,” (2:30 p.m.), led by the George Street Playhouse; “Create a Butterfly Mobile” (10:15 a.m., 1:15 p.m.), “Paper-Bag Puppets” (11:45 a.m., 2:45 p.m.), “Decorate a Picture Frame” (11 a.m., 2 p.m.); and “Make a Zoo Visor” (12:30 p.m.).
