RAHWAY-This is continued from my last column: In June 1921, Rahway Elks Lodge No. 1075 purchased the Mershon property adjoining their home to accommodate the fast growing membership, which now numbered 650. Plans were completed for a lodge room 45 by 65 feet that was modern in every detail. The planned club facilities consisted of bowling alleys, billiard tables, library, lounging rooms, a ladies’ parlor, and a dining room.
The officers (circa 1923) were: Charles L. Koops, exalted ruler; Edward Erdle, esteemed leading knight; Fred W. Marsteller, esteemed loyal knight; William F. Weber, esteemed lecturing knight; George L. Kirchgasner, sec; Herman Gries, treasurer; Walter R. Miller, esquire; Harry W. Urmston, chaplain; Carl L. Aszman, inner guard; Charles P. Ryno, organist and Theordore H. Schmidt, tyler.
