OLD BRIDGE – Police arrested a township man who allegedly showed pornographic images to a 14-year-old boy and offered the child money for a sexual favor, Middlesex County Prosecutor Bruce J. Kaplan and Old Bridge Police Chief William Volkert announced today.

Robert MacDonald, 62, of the Laurence Harbor section of Old Bridge was arrested at his home on Feb. 9 and was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and promoting prostitution.

The arrest followed an investigation by Detective Michael Machen of the Old Bridge Police Department and Investigator Karleen Duca of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

The investigators determined that the 14-year-old boy was visiting MacDonald at his home when the defendant allegedly showed pornography to the youngster and allegedly solicited a sex act for money.

The child declined and left the home, officials said. Authorities subsequently were notified and initiated the investigation.

MacDonald is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center in North Brunswick. Superior Court Judge Bradley Ferencz set bail at $50,000 with the provision that the defendant have no contact with the victim and no unsupervised contact with children under the age of 16.

Authorities are asking anyone with information on this, or similar incidents, to call Detective Machen of the Old Bridge Police Department at (732) 721-5600, or Investigator Duca of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at (732) 745-3600.
