  • Cherry Hill – 57 Haddonfield Road

EITC is a financial boost for working people hit by hard economic times. Many people will qualify for the first time this year because their incomes declined, their marital status changed or they added children to their families. Bigger families with three or more children get an extra boost with a larger credit this year. Workers without children also may qualify.

Four of five eligible workers claim and get the EITC. IRS wants to raise awareness of this credit during this tax season.  Workers can get the EITC only if they file federal income tax returns and specifically claim the credit.

EITC can put up to $5,666 into the pockets of families and individuals. The average credit last year was $2,200.  Anyone with earnings under $48,362 from wages, self-employment or farming in 2010, should see if they qualify for EITC.

Taxpayers wanting to know whether they qualify for the EITC can visit an IRS office for assistance. IRS personnel are available to answer taxpayers’ questions, offer additional information about the EITC, provide publications about this valuable credit and help prepare returns claiming the credit.

Taxpayers can locate the IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center nearest them by visiting the IRS website, at www.irs.gov .

Aside from IRS offices, taxpayers may also receive assistance at more than 12,000 free tax assistance sites nationwide. Taxpayers can locate the most conveniently located Volunteer Tax Assistance Site by calling 1-800-906-9887.
