LINDEN – Police arrested a 31-year-old Roselle man who was driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen the day before, authorities announced Tuesday.
Michal Kovac Jr. was charged with two counts of receiving stolen property and held on $17,500 bail, police said. He was also charged with contempt warrants out of Roselle and North Plainfield.
A 55-year-old Elizabeth man told police that his 1994 Ford Explorer had been stolen on Jan. 16 at the Linden Elks on Luttgen Place. The victim told police that he had loaded his DJ equipment into the vehicle after working at an event at the Elks. He started the Explorer and left the doors unlocked, then went back inside for a moment, he told police. When he came back out, his vehicle was gone.
The victim spotted the vehicle traveling on South Park Avenue Monday. Officer Airan Fernandez pulled the driver over. Kovac told the officer that a friend had loaned him the Explorer.
The DJ equipment was not recovered, according to police.
