First Graders Prove They Have The “Write Stuff”

EDISON — First graders at The Wardlaw-Hartridge School in North Edison celebrated the publication of their first books during a publishing party held on the morning of Jan. 14. To publish these books, the students selected their topics, researched them, wrote and edited their stories, and later adorned their books with colorful illustrations.

Before reading the books to their parents, classmates and faculty/staff members, the students shared special videotaped book reviews of their peers’ publications. Next, the students returned to their classrooms where they broke into small groups and read their publications, eagerly taking in comments, questions and compliments from their guests. The first graders will host another publishing party in the spring, during which they will present their own fairy tales.
